Raising funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS)
Outback Air Race 2025
What is the Outback Air Race?
The Outback Air Race (OAR) is a GPS-based navigation time trial throughout the remote Australian outback. In 2025 will host over 100 competitors in 45 aircraft, pilots nominate an elapsed time between two visual waypoints, receiving points for both time and location accuracy.

Outback Air Race exists to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). Since 1996 competitors have raised over $3 million, with funds from each race going towards outfitting RFDS aircraft with essential medical equipment, vital for treating sick and injured patients.
The 2025 event being held from 22nd August until 8th September, starting at Uluru, NT and finishing in Carnarvon, WA.
OAR reflects those challenges often faced by the RFDS as they assist those in remote areas during medical emergencies, and as they go above and beyond in their daily delivery of health, family and community support. On any given day the RFDS makes an average of 775 patient contacts, 145 patient transports and flies over 71,664 kilometres.

Despite growing demand for services, Federal Government funding has remained largely unchanged since 2006. Team Safari is registered to participate in the 2022 race and the team aims to raise at least $15,000 by the conclusion of the event in September 2025.
All the team’s costs in taking part on the Outback Air Race, aircraft costs (inc fuel & landing fees), the accommodation etc are paid by team members and none of the fundraising on behalf of the RFDS is used to cover the teams’ costs.

If you would like to assist with Team Safari's fuel bill of over $7,000 click on “Help pay for fuel”. Outback Air Race is Carbon Neutral and we know tonnes of carbon will be released due the fuel consumed. We are privileged to be able to aviate freely in Australia, and the OAR2025 will offset all emissions using a third party that plants native, biodiverse forests in Australia & New Zealand to capture carbon emissions.
